Design Document - Box Former Training
The Document design is a document prepared for EDIT 7520E, Online Teaching and Learning, with Professor Dr. Lauren Bagdy. This document follows the needs assessment completed in EDIT 7150E Principles of Human Performance, where one of the recommendations for instructional interventions was to enhance training programs for Box Former Operators and Maintenance personnel. This design document marks the beginning of the implementation of those recommendations.
The box former training module, which I am currently developing, aims to orient new hires assigned to operate the box former equipment. This equipment, as the name suggests, makes boxes by taking two pieces of corrugate and gluing them together to form a box that will eventually carry bags of syrup.

In designing the document for the box former training, I have taken into consideration the results of the needs assessment. The data indicated that comprehensive training programs should be developed for both box former operators and maintenance personnel. These programs should cover equipment operation, troubleshooting techniques, preventive maintenance procedures, and quality standards for corrugated cardboard.
The contextual analysis and learner analysis guided me to design the training module using a blended model approach. There are two key factors I am considering: first, the learners' ages vary widely, from 18 to 50 years old, and they are not accustomed to sitting for extended periods. Second, their level of education ranges from high school completion to a very few having attended undergraduate school. Therefore, I want to ensure they remain engaged and have the opportunity to switch between the online course and hands-on experience. This approach will act as scaffolding and help them retain more information.
I have included this document in my portfolio to show continuity in my work, building upon the needs assessment, incorporating the recommendations from it, and now designing and developing the course. This is a project that I have been passionate about completing because I believe it will significantly impact the organization by facilitating learning and improving performance. It will also open the door to address other instructional interventions needed at the Atlanta Syrup Plant.
This training module will initially be hosted on D2L, but once it's completed, it will be moved to Speach, an LMS that features microlearning display capabilities. This is an emerging technology that I have been able to introduce to Coca-Cola.
With this document, I have demonstrated my commitment to conducting comprehensive needs assessments to recommend appropriate design solutions and strategies. I have identified and described the target population and the environmental characteristics, and utilized analysis techniques to determine the instructional content. Additionally, I have analyzed the characteristics of existing and emerging technologies, such as Speach, and their potential use in the workplace.
By facilitating learning and improving performance through this training module, I aim to bring a transformative impact to the organization and pave the way for future instructional interventions.
