Executive Summary Evaluating with a Real Data Set

Evaluating with a Real Data Set (Part 3) was a project from the EDIT 7350 Evaluation and Analytics course with Dr. Lauren Bagdy. As the name suggests, it was the third part of a larger project. Parts 1 and 2 were completed as group work, while the executive summary with conclusion, and recommendations were done individually in Part 3. This project was particularly engaging for me because analyzing data and connecting various insights can be both enjoyable and intellectually stimulating.

  • The data analyzed in this project came from an evaluation assessing a 2-year professional development program designed to empower K-5 teachers to integrate technology effectively into their classrooms. The evaluation utilized various methods, including surveys, observations, and interviews, to inform a strategic plan for the program's future. Overall, the data indicated that the program was successful, revealing both strengths and weaknesses to consider for enhancing subsequent implementations. The data suggested that the program generally achieved its goals and that both teachers and students benefited from incorporating technology into their learning experiences. However, the data also revealed some discrepancies. Upon further analysis, it became evident that issues such as infrastructure limitations and limited mentor hours affected the overall program effectiveness.

This project is included in my portfolio because it complements the skills I demonstrated in my previous project on the evaluation plan. While it is not the same project, it builds upon and enhances my ability to evaluate instructional products and interventions. This project illustrates that I can present complex data information, evaluate it, and convey the messages that the data reveals in an easy and clear manner. It required meticulous attention to detail and a strong analytical approach to synthesize varied data points into cohesive conclusions.

I believe this project exemplifies my analytical skills in drawing conclusions from complex data by synthesizing information gathered from surveys, observations, and interviews, leading to actionable recommendations. These recommendations were geared towards optimizing the program's implementation and addressing the identified gaps. Additionally, this project showcases my ability to support decision-making with evidence. The experience enriched my understanding of program evaluations and reinforced my capability to present complex data in an accessible format, which is a valuable skill in an instructional design role.

This artifact represents my growth as an instructional designer who can effectively evaluate and optimize instructional programs. It demonstrates my proficiency in using data to inform strategic decisions, ensuring that instructional interventions are both effective and efficient. The capacity to analyze data and translate findings into practical recommendations is crucial for ongoing improvement and implementation of successful instructional programs. For instance, the insights gained from this project enabled program administrators to make informed decisions about resource allocation, mentor support, and infrastructural improvements, which are vital for the program's future success.

The value of this project lies in its comprehensive demonstration of my ability to revise instructional solutions based on data, evaluate instructional interventions, and implement these interventions effectively. By addressing these competencies, this project highlights my readiness to contribute meaningfully to the field of instructional design and to make a positive impact through data-driven decision-making. Furthermore, this project underscores my ability to communicate complex findings in a way that is both understandable and actionable for stakeholders, thereby fostering a collaborative approach to program enhancement.

Overall, this project was a foundational experience that fortified my skills in evaluation and implementation, preparing me to take on more complex challenges in the field of instructional design. It serves as a testament to my dedication to continuous learning and improvement, ensuring that my work contributes to the creation of effective and impactful educational environments.
