End of Run

The "End of Run Process" video was created for EDIT 6500E, Video Production for Teaching and Learning, under the guidance of Dr. Ikseon Choi, and was produced specifically for the Coca-Cola Atlanta Syrup Plant. This video outlines a crucial procedure ensuring that the production team verifies that no boxes from a prior flavor remain on the production line before the next flavor run begins.

  • The Atlanta Syrup Plant produces syrups for Coca-Cola products in various flavors. Production involves preparing a set quantity of syrup for each flavor before switching to the next. The End of Run Process entails steps for operators to confirm that one flavor’s syrup is fully cleared from the line to prevent mixing, which could lead to mislabeled or mixed-flavor products.

The video serves as a refresher to reinforce accurate procedure among operators, supplementing the existing written instructions. Gaps in knowledge on this specific process had been identified, prompting the creation of a video filmed in the production area to visually demonstrate each required step. By doing so, operators could better visualize the process and retain the steps needed to perform the procedure flawlessly, ensuring product quality and consistency.

Unlike other projects, this was a solo effort, meaning I managed the entire project from storyboard development to filming and editing. Filming in the production area—a busy, loud, and sensitive environment—required careful scheduling, including coordinating with operators willing to act as “actors” during their free time. Working within a limited timeframe added to the project's complexity, requiring efficient planning and adaptability.

I am including this video in my portfolio as it was well received by the Atlanta Syrup Plant leadership team. This project allowed me to refine my skills in storyboarding, videography, and video editing.I based the video's instructional design on Gagné's Nine Events of Instruction, providing another opportunity to apply instructional design principles.

This project demonstrates my ability to independently take an instructional video concept from ideation to completion, showcasing skills in managing partnerships and collaborative relationships within a corporate and manufacturing environment. It was a rewarding process, allowing me to work within numerous constraints, and ultimately led to positive feedback from my client (my manager and the leadership team).

In terms of the video's value, I can see a few things I would change if I were to film it again today. However, it is included here because it provided a great learning opportunity, and the skills I gained from this project are invaluable.
