Social Support
This project was completed as part of EDIT 7170E, Advanced Instructional Design, for Dr. Jill Stefaniak. The assignment provided the opportunity to explore a contextual factor from the Tessmer & Richey (1997) paper and allowed us to showcase our PowerPoint abilities. The contextual factor I chose was Social Support in the orienting context. I selected this topic because I believe I wouldn’t have been able to complete my Master’s in Education—or it would have been very difficult—without the support of my immediate family, workplace, and society.

Higher education is often viewed with admiration and respect, and earning a degree, especially a Master’s, is regarded as a significant accomplishment that reflects dedication and resilience. This positive perception from others, combined with the encouragement I received from my family, workplace, and broader community, motivated me to reach this goal. Therefore, I aimed to explore the impact of social support and identify strategies for creating environments and situations that foster a strong, positive support system. I intend to incorporate these strategies into the designs and development of instructional environments that I will create in the future.
I am including this project here because I appreciate how I designed the content structure, visual communication, and overall visual design. I believe it is simple yet engaging for the audience. In retrospect, this artifact represents my ability to incorporate essential instructional design principles and competencies to create an effective learning environment and to help learners connect with the content presented in clear, bite-sized pieces of information.
